Silvio Buchmeier is a Swiss composer and orchestrator based in Zurich. A jazz-trained saxophonist, he combines classical instrumentation, electronics, and bespoke recordings to create scores driven by each film’s characters and dramatic world.
His forthcoming feature-film scores include Juan Pablo Arias Muñoz’s Beginning Tomorrow and Daniel J. Slottje’s feature debut, The Trespassers. The latter continues his collaboration with Slottje following the Telluride-selected short The Rotting of Casey Culpepper, which earned Buchmeier Best Composer at HorrorOrigins.
A decade-long collaboration with filmmaker Andreas Elsener includes Pressure Drop, which screened at the Bucheon and Neuchâtel international fantastic film festivals. For the score, Buchmeier transformed a bespoke saxophone performance into an unsettling, disorienting soundscape.
Building on his experience assisting with orchestration on major studio films including The Flash and Thirteen Lives, Buchmeier contributed orchestrations to Dara Taylor’s score for the upcoming Spaceballs: The New One, recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London.
Beyond film, he has developed sonic identities for SRF Virus, Ricola, and the University of Zurich. His music for the immersive exhibitions Viva Frida Kahlo and Enlightenment has reached more than three million visitors worldwide.
A Fulbright Scholar, Buchmeier earned his Master of Music at NYU Steinhardt. He also produces custom music datasets at Tokyo-based Neutone for AI-enabled sound transformation and musical expression.
